I am a lucky gal. I am married to a man who can pick up a manual and learn to do basically anything just by reading about it. When we were first together, he was building his own speakers and amplifiers. Later, we bought a condo in Boston. For a couple of years, we didn’t do much to it except paint and buy some furniture. Then one fateful day we were driving by an Expo Design Center that was closing. We were not really planning to do any renovations to our condo, but went in to take a look around for any deals. We ended up buying a couple of light fixtures and a mirror. We took them home, replaced our old medicine cabinet with a new light and mirror, and updated a light in our walk-in closet.

We were hooked. Before we sold our condo, we had put in new appliances, replaced other light fixtures, put in a tile backspash, removed carpeting, swapped out our cabinet doors, and put up some new cabinetry.

That one trip to Expo Design Center coupled with my husband’s “we can do it” attitude created two DIY fanatics. After selling our 740 square foot condo (and making a hefty profit because of our sweat equity), we now own a 2100 square foot rowhouse in Baltimore.

This is the story of one couple’s journey to make their house a home through renovation and design. We buy tools and materials, read how-to manuals (sometimes), make a lot of mistakes, and have a lot of fun along the way.
